Selecting a high school major area of interest is not the same as selecting a college major or making a life-long commitment to a specific occupation. This simply allows students to take four of their eight electives in a common area, such as courses in a career and technical program, fine and performing arts, or academic content area, as part of the student's education plan.

		Florida's A++ Plan Major areas of interest will be part of high school coursework required for incoming ninth grade students in the fall of 2007 and later. Choosing major areas of interest are part of secondary school reform measures included in Florida’s A++ Plan for Education aimed at increasing the rigor and relevance of Florida high schools. Selecting a high school major area of interest is an opportunity for students to choose electives that truly interest them, providing a meaningful connection to coursework and time spent in school.
