Grade 9
This course provides a broad overview of medical professions, the health care delivery system, and the human body. Students receive basic medical terminology, and first aid skills.

Health Science 1 (8417100)
Grade 10; Teacher recommendation required.
This course discusses and describes an overview of the human body, including organization and chemical processes. Students use correct medical terminology relating to body structure and functions as well as identify and explain factors relating to the transmission of disease.

Health Science 2 (8417110)
Grade 11; Health Science 1 and Teacher recommendation required.
This course covers the stages of Human Growth & Development and the basic steps of First Aid. Students will discuss the basic components of the Health Care Delivery System, monitor and record vital signs, and recognize and practice infection control procedures. In addition, legal and ethical aspects of medicine will be covered.

Allied Health Assisting 3 (8417131)
Grade 12; Health Science 1 & 2 and Teacher recommendation required.
This course focuses on clinical shadowing in local health care facilities. Students currently utilize approximately 60 in and out patient shadow stations. Upon completion of this course the student will have the opportunity to be OSHA trained and CNA certification. Students must be able to provide their own transportation to and from their shadow stations and participate in the HOSA Club. Students completing Health Science 1 and 2 and Allied Health Assisting 3 will, at the end of Allied Health Assisting 3 take the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam. Upon passing this exam, students will earn this certification.
